The video installation "Fogo Morto" (dead mills) is part of the project "Rotas Esquecidas" (forgotten routes). In Ceará-Mirim (Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil), faced with new productive structures at the beginning of the 20th century, many mill owners at the time who did not have sufficient resources to modernize their production units became simple sugarcane suppliers. The agroindustry was consolidating, changing the local scenario. Many mills in the municipality stopped production, as many descendants of traditional ceará-miriense families began to pursue careers in the civil service. Those mills that stopped producing sugar, the wealth of the time, were called "dead fire" (fogo morto) mills. In this video installation, I seek to investigate the interactions between image and space, transforming the projections into materialities that adopt different textures. This non-screen becomes a place where the experience is shaped by the interaction between the video and the physical environment, in which light takes on a sculptural role, giving tactile dimensions to the visual exploration of the work. Investigating the relationships between image and space, the work addresses the abandonment of these historic devices, in an advanced state of deterioration.

A videoinstalação "Fogo Morto" faz parte do projeto "Rotas Esquecidas". Em Ceará-Mirim (Rio Grande do Norte, Brasil), diante de novas estruturas produtivas no início do século XX, muitos senhores de engenho da época, que não tinham recursos suficientes para modernizar suas unidades de produção, tornaram-se simples fornecedores de cana-de-açúcar. A agroindústria estava se consolidando, mudando o cenário local. Muitos engenhos do município pararam de produzir, pois muitos descendentes de famílias tradicionais ceará-mirienses passaram a seguir carreiras no funcionalismo público. Os engenhos que deixaram de produzir açúcar, a riqueza da época, eram chamados de engenhos "fogo morto". Nesta videoinstalação, busco investigar as interações entre imagem e espaço, transformando as projeções em materialidades que adotam diferentes texturas. Esta não-tela torna-se um lugar em que a experiência é moldada pela interação entre o video e o ambiente físico, no qual a luz assume um papel escultural, dando dimensões táteis à exploração visual do trabalho. Investigando as relações entre imagem e espaço, a obra endereça o abandono desses engenhos históricos, em estado avançado de deterioração.
